Tasting Notes

Crafted from barley grown exclusively on Islay by seven local farms during 2012, this eighth edition in the Islay Barley series showcases the distillery’s commitment to terroir and island provenance. The barley was dried, malted, and distilled in 2013 before maturing for a minimum of eight years in a carefully balanced mix of first-fill American whiskey casks and ex-European casks. It exemplifies the maritime-citrus and barley-forward style that defines this popular range.

Nose:
Bruichladdich’s hallmark barley malt aroma is unmistakable, underscored by coastal salinity and gentle citrus brightness. Floral accents and hints of fresh apple, pear, and tropical pineapple add depth, alongside notes of honeyed porridge and barley sugar sweetness.

Palate:
Rich and creamy, the palate reveals layers of lemon cake, candied orange, and nougat, balanced by salted caramel and oaky spice. Fruit flavors evolve towards apricot and mango, with hints of white pepper and nutmeg providing structure. A subtle salinity anchors the experience, adding complexity to the vibrant flavors.

Finish:
The finish is long, lively, and textured, with lingering citrus, warming spice, and a touch of honey. A tingle of oak spice and whispers of tropical fruits make for an elegant and satisfying conclusion.
