Cardhu is normally known for soft, honeyed and approachable Speyside whisky, so finishing a 16 year old at cask strength in Jamaican pot still rum casks is a pretty serious change of pace. Matured first in refill and re-charred American oak, the rum finish pushes Cardhu’s orchard fruit into much more tropical territory, bringing pineapple, mango and caramelised sweetness alongside plenty of oak spice. It is still recognisably Cardhu underneath, just louder, fruitier and with considerably more bite.

Nose
Pink grapefruit, ripe mango, pineapple and green apple with honey, vanilla, toffee and a touch of white pepper.

Palate
Caramelised pineapple, green banana and citrus with rum toffee, honeyed malt, cinnamon, ginger and firm peppery oak.

Finish
Long and warming with banana, vanilla, tropical fruit, allspice and a slightly salty, spicy edge.
