Tasting Notes
Glenfarclas 105 holds a special place in whisky history—released in 1968, it was the world’s first commercially available cask strength single malt. The “105” refers to the British proof system, equivalent to 60% ABV. Matured primarily in sherry casks and bottled without chill filtration or added colour, this is a bold yet refined dram that manages to balance its high strength with surprising smoothness. It’s a whisky that rewards a splash of water and a little time in the glass.
Nose:
Toffee apples, leather, marzipan, and orange zest. Hints of toasted oats and honey, with an undercurrent of nutty malt and dark vanilla.
Palate:
Full-bodied and spicy upfront, with warming sherry-soaked fruit, dark chocolate, and nutmeg. The sweetness builds with notes of baked orange tart, raisin, and malt syrup. With water, it softens into citrus custard and toasted nuts.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering spice, cocoa, dried fruit, and a touch of oak tannin. Balanced and surprisingly rounded for its strength.
