For a distillery whose whisky story reaches all the way back to 1494, Lindores Abbey isn’t afraid of a modern cask trick. The second release in its Casks of Lindores series was matured entirely in Spanish red wine barriques that were shaved, toasted and re-charred, or STR treated, bringing plenty of ripe fruit and spice without burying the malt underneath. It is a richer, fruitier side of Lindores, with the red wine influence adding depth while that soft, sweet house spirit still gets plenty of room to move.

Nose:
Apricot jam, ripe plum, orange peel, creamy toffee, custard and a dusting of cinnamon.

Palate:
Red berries, damson, dates and honeyed malt with treacle, roasted nuts, earthy spice and a touch of toasted oak.

Finish:
Medium to long with caramel, honey, dried fruit, baking spice and gently drying oak.
